Bette Midler confirms original Hocus Pocus cast will reunite for sequel

It's been 27 years since the original film was released

Bette Midler has confirmed the original cast of Hocus Pocus will reunite for the upcoming sequel.

Last year, it was reported that Disney were working on a follow-up to the cult classic film, which was released in 1993.

But at the time, fans weren’t sure if Bette Midler, Sarah-Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy would return to play the Sanderson sisters in a second movie.

However, Bette has since revealed they’ve all said yes to filming a sequel.

Speaking to Fox 5 New York, the legendary actress said: “They want to make a movie, they’ve asked us if we were interested and of course all of us said yes. I’m game, I’m totally game.”

The original film starred Bette, Sarah Jessica, and Kathy as a trio of witch sisters who have been cursed since 1693 in Salem, Ma.

The witches are accidentally resurrected 300 years later, and as they try to acclimate to the 20th Century, they discover that Halloween has become a holiday.

Kenny Ortega directed the original from a script by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert, based on a story by Garris and David Kirschner.

Later this week, the actresses will reunite for a virtual fundraising event in aid of the New York Restoration Project, entitled In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover.

According to the event’s website, the fundraiser will be “the most delightful, family-friendly and pandemic-safe Halloween shows of the year”.
