Bella Thorne apologises after receiving backlash for new OnlyFans policies

Bella Thorne has apologised after receiving backlash over OnlyFans newest policies.

The former Disney star joined the X-rated subscription site earlier this month, becoming the first OnlyFans member to generate $1.39million in just 24 hours after making her debut on the site – which caused some users to blame the actress for recent pricing changes.

On Friday, the explicit subscription-platform changed its policies – preventing creators from charging over US$40 for pay-per-view content and capped users from tipping over US$100.

“Remove the stigma behind sex, sex work, and the negativity that surrounds the word SEX itself by bringing a mainstream face to it that’s what I was trying to do,” the 22-year-old tweeted, “To help bring more faces to the site to create more revenue for content creators on the site.”

“I wanted to bring attention to the site, the more people on the site the more likely of a chance to normalize the stigmas, And in trying to do this I hurt you.

“I have risked my career a few times to remove the stigma behind sex work, porn, and the natural hatred people spew behind anything sex related.

“I wrote and directed a porn against the high brows of my peers and managers because I WANTED to help with the stigma behind sex.

“I am a mainstream face and when you have a voice, a platform, you try to use you in helping others and advocate for something bigger than yourself. Again in this process I hurt you and for that I’m truly sorry.”

Bella added: “Ps. I’m meeting with only fans about the new restrictions to find out why!!!

“This is f**ked up and I’m sorry comment any ideas or concerns you want brought up to OF!! and send me your links and a pic so I can promote you guys.”

After the changes were announced, OnlyFans users took to Twitter to claim that Bella had “ruined” the site – while OnlyFans denied this, stating that “any changes to transaction limits are not based on any one user.”

“Transaction limits are set to help prevent overspending and to allow our users to continue to use the site safely. We value all of the feedback received since this change was implemented and we will continue to review these limits.”

Bella spoke to Paper Magazine after announcing that she had joined OnlyFans, saying: “OnlyFans is the first platform where I can fully control my image; without censorship, without judgement, and without being bullied online for being me.”

Paper Magazine also reported that the actress is in talks to star in a documentary film about her experiences on the platform.

OnlyFans has exploded in popularity over the past few months, as it’s allowed celebrities to make easy money during the coronavirus pandemic.

Bella joins a host of celebrities who have also signed up to the popular platform – including Cardi B, Blac Chyna and Kerry Katona.

Goss.ie previously listed the celebrities who have recently joined OnlyFans, and revealed much they are earning through their personal content.
