Superstar singer Ariana Grande is reportedly being considered for the lead role of Elphaba in the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical, Wicked.

Speaking to Gay Times, Wicked’s composer Stephen Schwartz said he would be a “fool” not to consider Grande for a role in the film.

Schwartz is keen to get her on board with the film, and he referred to her as an “extraordinary talent”.

“I’m a massive Ariana Grande fan. Who isn’t?!” he said.

When the publication asked him if Grande was being considered for a role in the film he confirmed: “I mean… of course! The short answer is, of course.”

“The Wicked movie is not quite far enough along yet for us to really be talking about specific casting,” he said.

“But obviously everyone is very aware of the presence in the world of Ariana Grande and her extraordinary talent.”

“We’d be fools for her not to be being seriously considered.”

“Ultimately it won’t be my decision, Stephen Daldry is our director and he will have a lot to say about the casting, as will Universal and the studio. But, as I say, let’s just say that all of us are very aware of Ariana Grande.”

As a huge fan of the musical, Grande performed a stunning rendition of “The Wizard and I” at the 15-year anniversary show on Broadway.

And in 2013, Ariana featured on Mika’s updated cover of “Popular” from the Wicked soundtrack.

Universal Studios have confirmed the film is set for release in 2021.
