21 Savage’s lawyer has slammed his arrest and demanded his release.
The rapper was taken into custody on Sunday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who claimed the rapper is actually a citizen of the United Kingdom and has overstayed his visa.
The 26-year-old’s attorney, Charles H. Kuck, released a statement claiming that his arrest was ‘based upon incorrect information about prior criminal charges.’
According to People, Charles revealed that his client is currently being held without bond, he said: “Despite the fact that he has a pending U-Visa application with USCIS, and that he has relief from removal available to him.”
The rapper’s lawyer defended him and insisted that he did not try to hide his origin: “Mr. Abraham-Joseph has never hid his immigration status from the US Government.”
“Department of Homeland Security has known his address and his history since his filing for the U-Visa in 2017.”
He continued to state that the ICE should only hold people who are a ‘threat to the community’ which he believes 21 Savage is not, he said: “Likewise, Mr. Abraham-Joseph is clearly not a danger to the community, and in fact, his contributions to local communities and schools that he grew up in are examples of the type of immigrant we want in America.”
