EXCLUSIVE! Caitriona Balfe on her Outlander sex scenes: ‘It’s uncomfortable – but everyone has sex!’

The Irish actress plays the lead role of Claire in the Starz series

Caitriona Balfe has spoken out about filming her “uncomfortable” sex scenes for Outlander.

The actress, who plays Claire in the hit series, admitted that although it’s not the most comfortable thing in the world to film – she think it’s totally fine to see sex on TV.

“I mean I read the first book before we started filming so I knew that it was going to be a part of it,” she told Goss.ie on the red carpet at the 2018 IFTA Film & Drama Awards.

“And my conversations with Ron before we went into it was that he was more interested in telling this love story, but from the female’s perspective, and that he wasn’t interested in doing you typical TV sex, and I found that really intriguing,” she continued.

“You know, it’s not the most comfortable thing to do in the world, but everyone has sex! So it’s alright to see it on TV I think.”

Caitriona recently got engaged to her partner of two years, Tony McGill, and speaking about her engagement, she told Goss.ie, “I got engaged! I don’t know what else to tell, it was just a really lovely day and it was a nice surprise and I’m very happy.”

When asked if she’ll tie the knot this year, she said, “God no, I’m working until the end of June so it’s not going to happen this year.”
