Poor Domhnall Gleeson has been getting rough time lately and it seems like it’s never going to end with the latest butchering of his name.
While film maker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu accepted the award for Best Director for The Revenant – he thanked all his leading cast member but one name proved to be a step to far for the non-native English speaker.
Although attempting to thank his “Irish friend” Domhnall, the Mexican director miserably failed at trying to pronounce his name and instead referred to him as “Doughnut Gleeson”.
This isn’t the first time Domhnall has encountered such a public butchering of his name.
His co-star in The Revenant Leonardo Di Caprio referred to him as “Dumble Gleeson” whilst accepting the Best Actor in a Motion Picture award at the Golden Globes.
Between Domhnall and Saoirse, they’ll educate Hollywood on how to pronounce an Irish name correctly…eventually.
