Voice of Ireland winner fails to make charts

Voice of Ireland winner Michael Lawson has failed to make the charts with his first single.

Although almost half a million people tuned into to see him win, the singer’s cover of Lukas Graham’s hit 7 Years will struggle to make the top 75 after being absent from the mid-week charts – despite being released on Sunday after the final.

Speaking about the disappointing news, show boss Larry Bass blamed the lack of radio air-play for poor sales.

“I haven’t heard The Voice winner on the radio yet and it was the same last year,” he told the Irish Sun.

“If I worked in Irish radio I would hang my head in shame because no one plays new Irish music on Irish radio now.

“And don’t just talk to me, talk to Louis Walsh, talk to Nicky Byrne. Even Ireland’s Eurovision entry can’t get on the radio,” he added.

Meanwhile a spokeswoman for Universal Music, who has signed the Monaghan native, insisted it would be his next single which will launch his career in the coming months.

We wish all the best for Michael!
