Travel: The Ultimate Ski Holiday With More Alps

IMG_4525

I have always, always wanted to go skiing – but it never worked out.

Everytime there was a school trip planned I ended up moving schools, or everytime there was a group holiday I wasn’t free, but thankfully I finally got my chance to hit the slopes, and I loved it.

I went to a resort called La Rosiere in the French Alps thanks to More Alps, a company you can book everything through.

I was so afraid I was going to be crap, and honestly I had no idea what I was doing. Just ask my friend Meghann who was with me, I arrived in the Alps with no sunglasses, no boots (only flats from Penneys) and no gloves.

So it’s fair to say I got a crash course in skiing, and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done.

Here were my Top 5 favourite things about my trip.

1. The Catered Chalet

The great thing about booking with More Alps is that they have a selection of stunning chalets on site.

Our place actually looked like a postcard from Lapland, and honestly the pictures don’t even do our Chalet any justice.

We had a catered Chalet, meaning we had a chef cook for us, including breakfast and dinner every day.

And after a long day of skiing we were greeted with a glass of prosecco and then wine with our meal.

The food was delicious and did I mention our place came with a Hot Tub?

Yes despite absolutely freezing, freezing temperatures, we braved the cold to enjoy the outdoor hot tub and it was so worth it.

While it was snowing all around us the steaming hot Hot Tub was the perfect way to unwind from a long day on the slopes.

We were only a 15 minute walk away from our little village centre and where our slopes were, so the location was perfect.

2. The Slopes

Like I said I was a complete beginner so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t starting off accidentally on a red or a black and end up breaking bones on day one.

The great thing about La Rosiere, is that the resort is one of the best for beginners, meaning there are lots of green slopes.

I won’t lie to you, on day one I was brought straight to the Children’s Garden (morto) where I attempted to ski as dozens of four year olds whizzed right past me.

But within a half an hour I was ready for a green slope and I was chuffed.

It wasn’t crazy high but it was a bit intimidating for my first time, but I had a great teacher from the skiing school ESF which is on site.

I followed my trainer down the slope and soon enough I was turning and flying down the slope.

After one lesson I was available to ski by myself, so I couldn’t have been happier.

After a day or two on the greens, I moved onto two different blue slopes, something I didn’t think I’d be able to do on my first trip.

While on day one accidentally going fast down a slope was a nightmare, by the end of my trip I was craving more narrow slopes so I could feel the wind in my hair and let the adrenaline take over.

3. The Night Life

While skiing is all about the Apres Ski, I actually spent more time socialising at night time.

We were in a small little village but with dozens on Chalets around us, there was plenty of people there to meet.

On our first night we headed to Bar La Roz where we joined a table quiz and we had a brilliant time.

After the quiz was over, tables were pulled back, a DJ took over and we were dancing on the tables before we knew it.

There’s a few different pubs in the village to choose from us, and of course we bumped into other Irish people.

4. The Scenery

Like I said looking out the window of our Chalet was like looking at a Postcard, every morning we woke up to beautiful new sheets of snow on our wooden decking and around our windows.

Snow continuously fell softly around our Chalet, sticking to the pine trees.

One of the days I decided to stay in our Chalet all do as I had some work to do, and sipping on a hot chocolate with my lap in front of me was the best office I’ve ever had.

Viewability can be tricky when the snow fall is heavy, but one day on the slopes the clouds cleared and the sun poured down and the views were out of this world.

On our last evening I watched the sun go down on our wooden balcony, and it’s probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

5. More Alps

Because it was my first time skiing I genuinely was clueless when it came to using equipment, what clothes to where, and what to do in general.

The great thing about More Apls is that their package includes pretty much everything.

On our first morning a representative came to size us up for all of our ski gear and make sure we had everything we needed.

We also had a physiotherapist on site if needed (it was needed) and owner of the company Dan popped by to make sure everything was perfect, and it genuinely was every step of the way.
