Shane Lynch opens up on Boyzone's last night with the late Stephen Gately

Shane Lynch has revealed details of that happened the night before his late band member Stephen Gately’s funeral, when the four remaining members of Boyzone slept overnight in the church with him.

It was known that Stephen never liked the dark and his mother worried about him being alone in the church overnight, so Shane, Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham and Keith Duffy decided to keep him company.

Speaking in an interview with Fern Britton on BBC, he said, “We got our sleeping bags, the priest came in with some wine for us, and at about 12 o’clock at night we were starving hungry.”

“We didn’t think of food but then there was a knock on the church door and no word of a lie, but in came Daniel O’Donnell with a load of fish and chips.

“We sat and ate and laughed and joked and just told amazing stories, about Steo. It was an amazing thing to do, a magical thing to do.

“We saw him off with joy and not sorrow,” he said.

Ronan also added that the night was incredibly special as it was their “last night together as a five-piece.”

“That was very special for the four of us because it was our last night together as a five-piece.”

Stephen Gately tragically passed away due to a congenital heart defect on October 10 2009.
