Irish model Shahira Barry stars as a podium dancer in the rap movie Straight Outta Compton.
The movie is based on American rappers Dr.Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E and Galway native Shahira, who lives in LA, was a podium dancer in the film and got to work alongside Ice Cube’s son while O’Shea Jackson Jnr played his dad.
“When you hear somebody’s son is playing them you think, they’re not going to be very good at acting, or they just got the role because they’re that person’s relative but he took it really seriously,” she said.Â

Speaking to Anton Savage on Today FM, Shahira admitted that he was the right person for the role.
“When anyone watches the movie, it will come across that he is the best person for the job,” she said.
The 24-year-old owes her love of rap music to her mother who introduced her to it.
“My mom is a cool mom. She brought me up on Tupac. I was so interested in the story.”

“When I was four, she played Tupac in the car dropping me off to school when I was in baby infants. I have been into hip-hop since I was a toddler,” she explained.
Shahira, who is a trained Primary School teacher, moved to LA to pursue acting and has worked with singers such as Christina Milian and Snoop Dogg and is a regular visitor to the Playboy Mansion.
