Ryan Tubridy: 'John Murray was the first person to text me congrats when I got Radio One'

Ryan Tubridy has revealed that John Murray was the first person to send him congratulations after it was confirmed he was leaving 2fm for Radio One.

The Late Late Show host recently announced that he was leaving 2fm to return to his former station in John’s old slot at 9am.

However, Ryan insisted there’s no bad blood between the two hosts.

“When it was announced, the first text I got was from John to say congrats and I thought it was pretty classy,” he said.

“I thought John did a gorgeous job in the five years he was here.”

The RTE star also admitted that he has probably become too old for 2fm.

“I think there’s probably truth in that,” he told Brendan O’Connor on RTE Radio One.

“I think it’s no station for old men and it’s time to feel young again.”

The radio host said that he can’t wait to get stuck in to his gig.

“I’m extremely excited about it, the nine o’clock is a bit different. It’s one hour of radio that is important,” he said.

“It’s going to be such a change from where I was on 2fm so I consider it a total privilege.”

Two Tube presenter Stephen Byrne is currently filling in on the 2fm slot with it recently being revealed that Ryan would not be replaced on the station.
