RTE sponsors pay much less to share the airwaves with female stars

It costs far more to be in the company of the men of RTE than it does for the women.

The broadcaster is seeking up to €200,000 for title sponsorship for some of their most popular shows.

However, sponsorships for programmes fronted by women such as Miriam O’Callaghan and Claire Byrne are less than half that.

It appears the rates are affected by the time of day of the broadcast and not listenership.

It looks like RTE bosses reckon Ronan Collins is one of their most bankable broadcasters with a 12 month sponsorship package for his Radio 1 music show on offer for €200,000.

The prospective sponsor will be plugged in for four 10-second musical introductions per day.

Radio bosses are looking for €150,000 sponsorship deal for Rick O’Shea’s 2fm show €180,000 for popular morning programme Breakfast Republic.

Meanwhile, the title sponsorship package for Miriam O’Callaghan’s show comes in at just €80,000 while Claire Byrne’s year long package is priced at €95,000.

Chiefs are looking for €400,000 to sponsor Eastenders and a reported €450,000 to for Ray D’Arcy’s new chat show which the station hopes will bring in an audience of more than €400,000.
