Poldark actress SLAMS Aidan Turner fans: 'The obsession with his body is reverse sexism'

Poldark actress Heida Reed has said the UK’s national obsession with Aidan Turner’s body is an example of reverse sexism and completely undermines the show.

The Irish actor plays Ross Poldark on the hit BBC series that regularly attracts 8 million viewers – with Aidan frequently shirtless to the delight of  TV fans everywhere.

However, the Icelandic actress thinks the fascination with the Dublin native’s looks has become “ridiculous”.

Sexist: Heida believes the Aidan obsession is reverse sexism

“I think there should be the same standard for both sexes when it comes to things like this,” she said.

“Of course it’s nice for everyone involved that he’s viewed as a sex symbol or very attractive man. But it’s getting a little bit ridiculous. I think it just undermines the rest of the show.”

“I don’t think it should be any more allowed than if a woman was in the same situation. And if she was, the media would have a field day that she’s being objectified,” she told The Telegraph.

Ridiculous: Heida believes the show is being undermined

Heida admitted that Aidan is completely “baffled” with the attention he has received since starring in the show.

“The producers had no idea that was going to happen either. They never said, ‘let’s have his shirt taken off and everyone will go nuts.’ It wasn’t a strategy,” she revealed.

“We haven’t really discussed it much. We know Aidan and think he’s a great actor, and he puts his heart and soul into this part.”
