Pierce Brosnan on losing Bond role: 'I was kicked to the curb'

Pierce Brosnan has revealed all on how he was ‘kicked to the curb’ from his infamous role as James Bond after he was coldly dropped from the franchise following Die Another Day.

The Drogheda native made the revelation in a tell-all book written by Matthew Field and Ajay Chowdhury titled Some Kind Of Hero: The Remarkable Story Of The James Bond Films.

“I was in the Bahamas, working on a movie called After The Sunset and my agents called me up and said, ‘Negotiations have stopped’,” he explained.

“[Producers Barbara Broocoli and Michael Wilson] are not quite sure what they want to do. They’ll call you next Thursday.

“I sat in Richard Harris’ house in the Bahamas, and Barbara and Michael were on the line – ‘we’re so sorry.’ She was crying,” he said.

“Michael was stoic and he said, ‘You were a great James Bond. Thank you very much,’ and I said, ‘Thank you very much. Goodbye.”

Unfortunate: Pierce felt like producers kicked him to the curb | VIPIRELAND.COM

“That was it. I was utterly shocked and just kicked to the curb with the way it went down.”

According to the book’s authors, Pierce’s asking price to appear as Bond in his fifth installment of the franchise was high, and the producers were already looking to revamp the Bond films, leading to the Navan native’s untimely exit.
