Pat Kenny launching new chat show this April – with a news and current affairs show in the pipeline

Pat Kenny is set to make his big TV return at the end of April with UTV Ireland.

The former RTE presenter is coming back with a bang, with his own chat show as well as a new series similar to Pat’s famous current affairs show Frontline.

While he is only in talks about his news and current affairs show now, Pat will be back on our screens with his highly anticipated chat show in just two months.

“We will be going on air at the end of April with the programme,” Programming Director Mary Curits confirmed to Goss.ie.

Comeback: Pat will host a brand new chat show for UTV

“We can’t discuss it because obviously there is a confidentiality around it, we have other broadcasters in the market that are very interested in it,” she added.

“We are still working with Pat on the format at the moment, but we are very  happy we have a location and we have dates.

“It’s playing to Pat strengths so it’s very important that he’s happy with the format,” she added.

Mary also revealed the show will be pre-recorded, and added that Pat is also eager to make a revival of his popular RTE series Frontline.

“At the moment we need to get this show up and running, but it’s depending on Pat’s commitments to Newstalk, if he is available he will be doing elections and referendums.

“He’s a busy man so we need to make sure we manage his energy as well,” Mary told Goss.ie.

“But yes that would be the plan long term, it’s part of the conversation we’re having with him.”

Celebrating: UTV Ireland is the country’s second most watched channel

The news comes as UTV confirmed they are now the second most watched Irish channel in peak time after just one month.

The new channel has already reached over 3 million viewers with Coronation Street and Emmerdale reaching the highest ratings so far.

And the station’s News programme  Ireland Live News was watched by over 1.5 million people in January alone.

But Managing Director Michael Wilson confirmed they are now looking into commissioning Irish-made programmes as well.
