Olly Murs joins campaign to help Irish girl fighting cancer

Big-hearted Olly Murs has urged people to help a young Irish girl who is fighting cancer.

Adorable Merryn Lacy, four, is battling Stage 4 Neuroblastoma – an aggressive childhood cancer of the nervous system.

Last night, her family and supporters put on a special Strictly Merryn night – like Strictly Come Dancing – in a bid to raise cash for her treatement.

And X Factor winner Olly specially took time out of his schedule to record a message for the Dublin youngster – after being unable to judge the event.

He said: “I just wanted to say a massive hello to Merryn Lacy. I hear you have a bit of a fight on your hands at the moment.

“I’m really, really sorry that I can’t be there to judge Strictly Merryn tonight, but I know all the dancers have been working really, really hard on their routines.”

He added: “I know that you are a great character who is full of life. And I know that you are good craic.” Her family said it was “so sweet and genuine” for Olly to send her the message.

They are hoping to raise the money they need to get her on a two-year life-saving medical trial in America, where she would have to fly every three months.

Her family hope the treatment will stop Merryn relapsing, but will face further six-figure bills to keep their daughter alive if it doesn’t work.
