Nicky Byrne reveals he missed being in the spotlight after Westlife

Nicky Byrne has admitted he missed being in the spotlight after Westlife came to an end.

The 2FM presenter is set to represent Ireland at the Eurovision this year and revealed he “absolutely” missed being in the spotlight when the band came to an end.

“Only a chosen few get the opportunity to be in that position and I am very lucky to be among their number,” he told the RTE Guide.

“We had 14 years and when it stopped, I didn’t miss it initially but after a while I did.

“It is like when a footballer or boxer who, when it all goes, looks back and thinks ‘Jeez I didn’t realise what I had’,” he explained.

Speaking about the chance of a Westlife reunion, Nicky said he would love the four members to rejoin but only if it’s just for the fans.

“If there was to be a reunion for the four of us I’d like to think it would be done for the fans and not for a record label or management,” he said.

“I’d hate to think that we’d come back for financial reasons.”

Meanwhile Nicky is focused on getting into the finals of the Eurovision this month.

“If I were to win the Song Contest that would be the biggest professional achievement of my life,” he admitted.
