Newstalk respond to Pat Kenny axing claims

Newstalk have responded to reports that broadcaster Pat Kenny’s show was in the firing line due to poor ratings.

According to a report, station bosses were allegedly concerned about his listener figures and were thinking of scrapping the show in the New Year as part of a revamp.

Speaking about the allegations, Garrett Harte, Editor in Chief of Newstalk has quashed the reports.

“This article is a complete work of fiction and contains absolutely no truth whatsoever,” he said.

Responded: Newstalk have responded to claims that Pat Kenny’s show was facing the axe

“Pat has boosted audience figures for his programme by over 150% since starting two years ago.

“We are very happy with Pat’s performance and we are actively planning a number of large campaigns for next year including the General Election and Ireland’s appearance at the European Championships,” he explained.

“This false, misleading and damaging article is the antithesis of what we do in Newstalk.

“It is an article that was published based on misguided and ill-informed speculation and conjecture,” he added.

Claims: Garrett Harte, Editor in Chief of Newstalk has denied the claims

“At no time did the newspaper or journalist contact the station for comment.

“We have instructed our solicitors to commence action against the newspaper and we will ensure that the Irish Sun apologises for this attempt to damage both Pat Kenny and Newstalk.” he admitted.
