Markus Feehily: 'I didn't like being single – I just got messed around'

Markus Feehily has revealed his latest album is about struggling with single life.

The Sligo native will release his new album Fire this Friday, and admitted he was inspired by heart ache.

“I wrote the album over a period of around three years and it just so happened at the start of that time I was going through a break-up and then I was single for a while,” he explained.

“I realised I didn’t enjoy being single, you do get messed around and there are people out there who are nice people but seem to not have that chip in their brain.

“People lie – they say one thing and do another and they throw your feelings around the room a bit,” he told the Mirror.

“I was glad to get back into a relationship and the album is about the whole spectrum of events – it’s not just a break-up album, it’s not just a ‘Screw you’ record, it’s not just an ‘I’m in love’ record.

Single life: Markus split with his boyfriend in 2012 | VIPIRELAND.COM

“It’s more a little bit of what I have been up to since the band finished,” he added.

Markus split with fiance Kevin McDaid in 2012 after seven years together and while most songs are about their split, the singer said he hasn’t heard any of them.

“He hasn’t heard it yet. One thing I will say is that it’s not about one person so there’s not one person who can claim responsibility for it. It’s about experiences I had when I was single as well.

“One thing I don’t want to do is be too specific about what the songs are about as I want people to create their own ideas and find their own meanings to them,” he explained.
