Mark Feehily becomes a CATERER after Westlife split – making crepes and tea at music festivals

Former Westlife star Mark Feehily has revealed fans in London were shocked to find him working as a caterer after the band ended.

The Sligo singer has converted an old van into a catering service for music festivals – and admitted people were “flabbergasted” to see him serving them food and making tea,

He said: “It’s going really well, we’ve got loads of interest and we’ve booked it in with a lot of the music festivals and we’re talking about doing some Irish ones as well.

“People were flabbergasted at the fact that I was in the van making crepes. People kind of have this thing ‘Oh, he was in Westlife a few years ago and now he’s making tea.'”

However, Mark doesn’t believe being in a successful boyband makes him too good to do any kind of work and insisted he loves the business.

He added: “It’s my business and I love it, anything I get involved in I get involved 110%. A couple of Irish people came up and were like ‘Wait a minute, what are you doing in a van?’ I love festivals, so why not.”

The Sligo native has been the least visible member of Westlife since the group split in 2012 but he has been making music ever since.

Solo star: Mark has been working on his solo career since Westlife split

“Everyone thinks I just went back to my living room and sat down for the last few years. Just because people can’t see you doesn’t mean you’re not doing anything,” he told 2FM’s Eoghan McDermott.

“Not too long after Westlife finished I went back into the studio and made the decision to completely start from scratch. The music that I would come out with as an individual is quite different to Westlife.

“As a singer, it’s very much soul and gospel and a little bit rnb, it’s still pop music. When you’re in a band, you’re a team. Now it’s just me, I write everything just for my voice.”

Dark thoughts: Mark gets his inspiration from songs when he’s feeling down

Mark, 31, also admitted that he gets his inspiration for songs from sad moments, with happiness not inspiring him in the slightest.

“When I go ‘Oh that’s a good idea for a song’, it’s not when I’m out with my friends having dinner having a lovely time,” he explained.

“I get a bit more inspired by when things aren’t going so well or when something bad happens. That’s kind of what music is about for me, it lets me rip and let a bit of steam off.”
