Jonathan Rhys Meyers set for new 1916 film

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has officially been cast in a new movie about the Easter Rising.

The Cork actor has signed on to play Padraig Pearse in the film about the 1916 event, also starring Liam Neeson’s son Michael as well as Downton Abbey’s Brendan Coyle.

Film maker Kevin McCann confirmed to the Sunday Business Post that the project is currently looking for funding, with the project also being backed by the Irish Film Board.

“On one hand you’ve a great story and a sense of duty to make a film based in the stories of your land,” he told the paper.
