Jack Reynor reveals Glassland got him 'back in touch' with Ireland

Transformers actor Jack Reynor has opened up about his role in Irish film Glassland, admitting it brought him back to reality.

The Wicklow native took home the World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Acting for his portrayal in the film at this year’s Sundance film festival and admitted the role was a departure for him.

“I was away for almost a year and I didn’t come home once and it was a big departure from everything I knew.

“When I cam home I was in need of something that would bring me back and that would help me define what I wanted to do next and get me back in touch with my home,” he said.

The 23-year-old revealed he was desperate to play the part of John in the film and enjoyed the challenge his character brought.

“That’s why this role was the one that I really wanted to do because I could really relate to this character. I suppose more so than I can with any other character.

“I liked the idea of playing a guy who had a really difficult relationship with his mother and was trying to care for her and help her psychologically and emotionally,” he explained.

Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show, the What Richard Did star shared how Glassland reflected on his own personal life.

“Alot of things that are happening in Johns world, I’ve kind of experienced parallels in my own life.

“I didn’t grow up in a particularly affluent family. We struggled quite a lot economically.

“There is certainly elements of addiction in my family, it was something I knew, it was something I just wanted to address.

“It was a story worth telling, I could explore things in myself with and that is why I did it,” he said.
