First look: TV3 pick Richard Flood as the leading man for their new soap Red Rock

TV3 have finally found their leading man for their new soap opera Red Rock – Richard Flood.

Bosses have picked the dashing actor to play the main cop – Superintendent James McKay – in their Garda station-set show.

He will be first seen in the show next year when TV3 take on Fair City with their homegrown soap opera, after losing the rights to Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

Previously Richard starred with Donald Sutherland in US drama Crossing Lines, and teamed up with Rob Lowe in Killing Kennedy.

But Richard admitted he is now extremely happy to be back at home after a number of years in America.

He said: “I have tried the Garda hat and shirt on and my fiancee assures me that blue is a flattering colour.”

He will star alongside Game of Thrones’ Jane McGrath, who plays a female detective in the series.

Fiancee: Richard met Gabriella on set of Crossing Lines

Chiselled Richard met his fiancee, actress Gabriella Pession, on the set of Crossing Lines – and has just welcomed a daughter, Julio, into the world.

He added: “I have a three month old baby and scripts to learn so I’m juggling a lot but loving it.”

Previous, Goss.ie revealed that TV3 are spending a massive €4.5million on making the show, which will air twice-weekly.
