John Carney has opened up on expecting his first child with partner Marcella Plunkett.
Speaking exclusively to Goss.ie at the launch of the musical Once returning to Dublin, the Sing Street director admitted that he “can’t wait” for fatherhood, and that this will be the “real big production” of his life.
“Yes, we’re having a little baby,” he gushed.

“It feels great, it feels like this is the real big production of my life, I have to say, and the thing I’m just so looking forward to.”
When asked if he’ll be taking a step back from the industry now that he’s going to be a father, the famed director admitted that he’s ready to talk about somebody else for a while.
“Yeah, just sort of not talking about me for a while, I’ve talked about me and so many films for the last while.

“I’m ready for fatherhood and I’m ready to shine the spotlight on somebody else a little bit, and you know, shed some of my narcissism,” he laughed.
The film-maker revealed that he’s going to focus on enjoying fatherhood, and that he can’t wait to welcome his first bundle of joy into the world.
“I’m just going to enjoy it and see what it brings now.. I just can’t wait,” he added.
