EXCLUSIVE! Baz Ashmawy on his Emmy nomination: 'I don't think we'll win'

TV presenter Baz Ashmawy has been racking up the accolades for his show 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy but the star isn’t confident about winning any of them

Opening up about his recent international Emmy nomination, the modest Dubliner, who is nominated admitted he doesn’t see himself taking home a statue.

“Ah no, it’s nonsense, no, it’s great I get to go to New York with her and have the craic so that will be brilliant,” he said.

“But as far as winning anything, don’t see that happening. It is what it is.”

Speaking to Goss.ie the TV star insisted he doesn’t take the media recognition seriously – having been on the other side once before.

“With press and nominations and things like that if you believe all the good stuff then you got to believe all the bad stuff they write,” he said.

“Over the years, I’ve learned to not take all that stuff really seriously. It’s nice, don’t get me wrong, it’s lovely but that’s as far as it goes with me.

“I’ve been on the other side where people write how s**t everything you do is – even when we started 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy, some of the press slamming it and they were the only press in the world that slammed it,” he told Goss.ie.

“We went on to sell it to over 100 and got Emmy nominated, so I have a protective thing where I just go I’m nominated and that’s just about it.

“For me it’s walking around the street and people pulling you aside and kids coming up to you – it’s real people that watch the show and are connected to it,” he added.

“I get letters from kids and mums – really sweet letters, people that even brought their mums skydiving or people bringing their mums to a festival – that stuff means more to me than any nomination would.”

Meanwhile, the TV star revealed to Goss.ie that his mother Nancy won’t be able to make tomorrow’s IFTA TV awards.

“I don’t think so, I feel empty going without her to be honest but She’s got the Emmy’s next month as well,” he said.
