Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhian has spoken out about Brendan O’Connor asking the minister of state to remove his YES for equality pin while on the Saturday night show.
The TV star, who hosts Science Squad said she has “more freedom” to be open about her opinions on marriage equality than other employees in RTE.
“RTE is a public broadcaster and it has to make those decisions and it takes those decisions very seriously.”

Speaking at the launch of Carphone Warehouse’s new website the broadcaster and tech lover said RTE’s BAI guidelines haven’t influenced her decision to be vocal on the matter.
” I think its quite valid that they are represented equally, I’m not am employer of RTE I work as a Freelance presenter and I always have so I may a little bit more freedom in that,” she told Goss.ie.
Speaking about the referendum, Aoibhinn said people need to be better informed.
“There’s a lot of misinformation out there. Its a shame that that misinformation has been out there,” she said.

“This referendum is not about adoption, its not about surrogacy, its about defining marriage as being equal to all member of society and that’s what I’m promoting,” she explained.
Meanwhile Aoibhinn revealed she is so busy with lecturing that she won’t be adding any new TV shows to her plate just yet.
“I am busy enough as it is with teaching and researching,” she said.
“Lecturing is my full time job, I will keep up science communication and continue to do writings, pieces on television, pieces on radio, I love doing it all of that because I love it and because I’m so interested in it,” she added.
