Danny Boyle: 'I didn't recognise Michael Fassbender when he was playing Steve Jobs'

Director Danny Boyle revealed he didn’t recognise Michael Fassbender when he became Steve Jobs.

The 58-year-old reminisced about working on an early scene between the characters Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs as they worked in a garage on what would eventually become a personal computer.

“I came onto the set and I saw this guy and I had this nightmare, because as a director, you want to try and know all the crew’s names,” he said.

Unrecognisable:  Danny revealed he didn’t recognise Michael when he was Steve Jobs

“I remember thinking, ‘Who’s that?! That’s someone I don’t know! Oh no … that’s Michael!’ So there was that moment where he changed somehow.”

Speaking to HuffPost Live about the Kerry native’s transformation into the iconic Apple boss, the British film maker admitted it wasn’t the star’s appearance that made unrecognisable.

“It’s this internal thing with great actors. You look at him in all these performances and he is Michael Fassbender, but on the other hand, he’s not!” he revealed.

“He goes through a whole journey where he transforms internally. And sometimes, it’s manifested externally.”
