Colin Farrell gets standing ovation in Cannes for new movie The Lobster

Irish  movie The Lobster is making waves over at the Cannes Film Festival this week.

Star of the movie Colin Farrell attended the world premiere last night and was given a standing ovation at the end of the movie.

Joined by his cast mates Rachel Weisz, Ben Whishaw and John C Reilly, Colin has received rave reviews for his performance, with the movie being welcomed by critics.

Film industry bible Variety said that “Yorgos Lanthimos’s first English-language feature is a wickedly funny, unexpectedly moving satire of couple-fixated society.” While The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the movie was “a dark, deeply funny dystopian tale.” ​

Speaking from Cannes, Element Pictures Producer Ed Guiney said that “the response to Yorgos film was overwhelming. It’s so gratifying that Cannes audiences embraced this wonderfully funny, brilliantly dark and ultimately beautiful film in such an enthusiastic way.

“It’s exactly what we hoped in launching this film to the world.” THE LOBSTER marks Element Pictures sixth film in official selection at Cannes in recent years.”
