Brendan O'Connor opens up on Radio 1 rumours: 'I'm not replacing John Murray'

Brendan O’Connor has slammed reports that he is replacing John Murray on RTE Radio 1.

The John Murray Show was axed after 5 years on the air with the former Saturday Night Show host being brought in to take over – however, Brendan has insisted his stay is a temporary one.

There’s been a lot of mixed reporting on this – I’m not replacing John Murray. Nobody can replace John Murray,” he said.

Replacement: Brendan insisted his Radio 1 stay is not permanent

“I would not do that. I wouldn’t take anyone else’s gig.”

The chat show host insisted that he’s only “keeping the seat warm” until the permanent replacement for John is announced.

“I’m here for four weeks and all I’m doing really is keeping the seat warm for whoever the anointed one is, Tubs or whoever, I don’t know who it is,” he said on Radio 1.

Brendan admitted that he had been scheduled in for a holiday cover because “everyone else is gone on holidays so they’ve stuck me in for four weeks”.
