Bono's daughter Eve Hewson: 'I don't want to be an It Girl – I hate the label'

Actress Eve Hewson has admitted she never wants to be known as an “It Girl” – revealing she hates the label.

The Dubliner, who was recently cast as Maid Marian in the upcoming Robin Hood flick, has been enjoying her career rocket over the past year with her US drama The Knick.

“There’s lots of kids that brand themselves, which is totally fine, but they do so many things that they’re just celebrities or It Girls, I hate that label,” she said.

“I don’t want to be an It Girl, because one day I’ll be the girl that used to be the It Girl.

“So I’d rather stick my head down and try and get the best work that I can, and then hopefully everything else will fall into place,” she told Time Magazine.

Despite her success, the 24-year-old admitted her famous parents have helped her financially which has allowed her to choose the roles she’s passionate about.

“I’ve been lucky because my parents always supported me. They’ve said, ‘Yes, you’re an actor and you want to work, but you don’t have to work on everything?,” she admitted.

“[They said] ‘If you don’t absolutely love a role or a project, please don’t feel like you have to do it yourself. We’ll support you, feel free to be picky and make the best choices’.

“So I’ve been a little bit more unemployed than I’d like to be, but I think it actually set a good tone in my career,” she added.

“So I just stuck to acting and made sure it was the one thing that I was going to be recognised for.”

Promoting season two of her medical HBO drama, The Knick, the NYU graduate admitted although a serious show it was fun to work on.

“It’s fun because we’re dealing with a lot of dark subject matter and death and violence, but in between takes we’re making fun of each other,” she revealed.

“They say comedy sets are really boring because everyone’s saving their laughs for the take. So that’s kind of the opposite of our set.”
