“I’m not quite better but I’m on the mend… I was fortunate enough that my cancer was diagnosed early.”
Bobby explained that his daughter “badgered” him to go to the doctor, and then a lump was found on his neck.
“I didn’t know what to say. I’m only one of 135,000 that hear that every year. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough, I rang my wife Mary and I couldn’t speak,” he said.
The owner of coffee chain Insomnia added that he received “35 radiation sessions and chemotherapy once a week” and was admitted to hospital for three weeks.
“The whole radiation really knocked the socks off me,” he admitted in the emotional interview.
“But I’m a very positive person .I didn’t go to the dark place. I kept saying ‘I’m going to beat this’, there was no other way to go…There was no point in me dwelling in the negative.
“It’s been a bit of a journey but I’m back and I’m ready for action,” he added.
Speaking to viewers Bobby said after facing the illness he is urging people to live life to the full.
“Love and be loved, and live your life to the full.
“And in work go outside your comfort zone. It’s about getting out there and doing something different,” he said.
