TV host Terry Wogan has died aged 77.
The BBC star, who hailed from Limerick, died after a short illness, his family has confirmed.
“Sir Terry Wogan died today after a short but brave battle with cancer,” the family confirmed in a statement.
“He passed away surrounded by his family. While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time,” they added.
Terry was a huge supporter of BBC’s Children In Need
BBC director general Tony Hall said: “Terry truly was a national treasure.”
Terry was born in Limerick but later moved to Dublin, before making the move to London to work for the BBC.
In 2011 the presenter made a documentary called Terry Wogan’s Ireland – where he returned to his roots.
