Aoibhin Garrihy reveals she was REJECTED for Brooklyn role

Aoibhin Garrihy has revealed that she was rejected for a role in Oscar-nominated film Brooklyn.

The actress auditioned for the part of Nancy, who was the best friend of the lead Eilis Lacey, played by Saoirse Ronan – but unfortunately didn’t make the cut.

Although the Castleknock native received four call backs, she was eventually cut from the process, and admitted that she ‘would have killed’ for the role.

“I auditioned for the part of her friend and I got, like, two then three and four call backs for it.

“I had read the book and the script and went for the auditions feeling that, ‘God, I would really kill for this one’.

“The closer you get to the role, the more and more you invest in it,” she told Irish Tatler.

The film, which was adapted from Colm Tóibín’s novel, was a huge success and was nominated for Best Picture and saw the film’s lead Saoirse Ronan receive a nomination for Best Actress.

“To not get those ones never gets easy. Especially when you see it on screen and how it has done so well.

“In hindsight, though, I think they made great choices with the casting,” she admitted.

Aoibhin is gearing up to wed her other half John Burke in September, at his Armada Hotel in Spanish Point, Co. Clare.

“It’s going to be a celebration of the area, the local produce and just a bit of a hooley really. We want it relaxed,” she added.
