Alf Stewart's in town! Actor Ray Meagher hangs out with BOD and Amy

Home and Away actor Ray Meagher famed for his iconic role as Alf Stewart has been making himself at home since arriving in Ireland.

The Australian actor who has been kept busy with press events revealed he took some time out to earlier this week to meet Irish royalty Brian O’Driscoll and Amy Huberman for a coffee.

Admitting his love of BOD, the TV star said: “I think he’s one of the finest players ever to have played the game.”

“I was very fortunate enough to have a cup of coffee with him this afternoon, this very day with him and Amy,” he told TV3’s 7 O’Clock Show.

The longest-serving actor in an Australian series has long been a fan of rugby and admitted he invited the Irish team on set.

Laughing about his encounter on set with the team, the actor fondly reminisced about trying to teach Ireland rugby captain, Paul O’Connell how to say a few Alf Stewart sayings.

“I remember trying to teach Paul O’Connell how to say ‘you flamin’ mongrel’ or ‘get out of here you great gala’ or ‘G’day mate’ or something'”

“He and Peter Stringer, I remember was there so it was back when he was the world number one half-back and quite a few of the guys came out,” he revealed to Lucy and Martin.
