Actress Toni Collette: 'I was intimidated doing an Irish accent for Glassland'

Australian actress Toni Collette has opened up about trying to learn how to speak in an Irish accent for her role in Glassland.

The Hollywood star, who plays an alcoholic mother alongside Jack Reynor in the Gerard Barrett flick, admitted she was in “intimidated by it.”

“It started with pure panic, I was totally intimidated by it. I went to an an amazing dialect coach,” she said.

“I think you just have to get out of your head and once start doing something you , it becomes much easier.”

Despite being daunted by taking on the Irish accent, Toni revealed she was blown away with writer-director Gerard’s script.

“I spent a lot of time here in the past and it’s a pretty universal story and Gerard – he just a beautiful writer and for such a young guy he has an incredible grasp on it life and perspective,” she said on The Late Late Show.

“It was just a gorgeous story and I found it to be very moving and it would be a great challenge for me to play that part so I spoke to him and he just blew me away.”

No stranger to the Emerald Isle, the Muriel’s Wedding star revealed she was so smitten with Ireland she previously owned a home in Wicklow.

“I had an Irish boyfriend and than I met a lot of wonderful Irish people,” she admitted.

“Being from the southern hemisphere and working in mostly the northern hemisphere – I used to come and hang out with a friend of mine who was like a big brother and I kind lived in Dublin.

“Then I ended up buying a property in county Wicklow in Roundwood, it was very lovely,” she added.

However, the Little Miss Sunshine actress revealed she no longer owns the property
