Saoirse Ronan has won Best Actress in a Film at this year’s IFTA Awards.
The Carlow native picked up the coveted gong for her perofrmance in critical powerhouse Room.
The actress has received rave reviews for her role in the indie drama about a young Irish girl who emigrates to America.

Saoirse was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes, losing both to Room actress Brie Larson.
The 21-year-old was not at the ceremony at Dublin’s Mansion House to accept the award as she is currently busy performing in Broadway show The Crucible.
