TV3 set to go head-to-head with RTE flagship chat shows

It’s reported TV3 are planning to go head-to-head with RTE’s The Late Late Show and The Ray D’Arcy Show.

According to reports, the broadcaster’s new CEO Pat Kiely broke the news about the station’s plans with staff last week.

“There is no other way to get big ratings than go after the big audiences RTE have on Friday and Saturday nights,” a source told the Sun.

Although it’s not cleat what type of programming TV3 will be making – insiders have suggested it would be a big money chat show to rival RTE.

“TV3 now has big money to spend on a large noisy TV show, and to stick with their show, until it works. You can’t rule out TV3 making a big new chat show,” the TV insider said.

Meanwhile, station bosses are now focusing on the broadcasters entertainment shows – hinting they may replace ITV’s X Factor for an Irish show.

“X Factor’s days are numbered. TV3 badly needs a flagship show to pull that sort of an audience on a Saturday night,” the source added.
