Red Rock signs major deal with BBC

TV3’s Red Rock has been snapped up by the BBC in a deal worth €500,000 after the soap went live in America on Amazon Prime.

Although it isn’t clear which station will broadcast the show, insiders have pointed towards BBC Worldwide – making the drama a huge success internationally.

“It’s a great coup for TV3 as the BBC’s stable of dramas include so many great shows,” said a TV insider.

“It’s not often a show made for TV in Ireland gets green lit in the rest of the world so it’s a testament to the quality of the drama that other countries feel it will travel.

“It’s another boost for Irish drama, particularly in light of the Amazon Prime deal lately,” the source told The Mirror.

According to the TV insider, the soap, which broadcasts on Wednesdays and Thursdays, has plans to increase the number of episodes due to their success.

“With interest coming from around the world it is hoped more episodes per week could be made, but it’s all down to finances,” the insider added.

The drama is gearing up to celebrate its 100th episode on March 10 with a huge celebration planned for cast and crew.
