11 reasons why Michael Fassbender should win an Oscar

With award season in full swing and the Golden Globes all wrapped up, everyone’s mind is set on the Academy Awards.

There’s a host of Irish actors and directors nominated this year and GOSS HQ has lit a candle for all of them.

Michael Fassbender is up for the coveted Best Actor in a Leading Role Award for his performance in critical hit Steve Jobs.

1. He’s been nominated before

Although Steve Jobs is Michael’s first nomination for Best Leading Actor, it’s not his first Oscar nod.

The actor was previously up for Best Supporting Actor at the 2013 Academy Awards for his role as the sadistic Edwin Epps in 12 Years A Slave.

Michael lost out to Dallas Buyers Club star Jared Leto who also gave an outstanding performance, but we can’t bare to see Michael robbed again.

2. His girlfriend is killing award season too

Michael is dating Swedish actress Alicia Vikander who has also been the Queen Bee at award season this year.

The 27-year-old has been up for a host of awards this year for her roles in Ex Machina and The Danish Girl, the latter of which has earned her an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress.

A couple both winning Oscars in the same year would definitely make for a ceremony to remember.

3. He’s from Kerry

It has to be said, sometimes actors from Dublin get all the glory.

There’s plenty of talent scattered throughout our fair nation and it’s about time somebody from the South Wesht got a bit of recognition.

Who better than Michael than to bring glory home to the Kingdom than Michael.

It’s about time they did well in something other than the GAA.

4. His performance was amazing

Michael has received heaps of praise for his performance as Steve Jobs.

The Irish actor even got a shout out from fellow Apple co-founder and close friend of Jobs, Steve Wozniack.

“I saw a rough cut and I felt like I was actually watching Steve Jobs and the others, not actors playing them,” he said of the flick.

5. His co-star has already won a Golden Globe

Michael was up for Best Leading Actor at the Golden Globes but tragically lost to Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant.

However, it wasn’t all bad news as fellow Steve Jobs star Kate Winslet picked up the Best Supporting Actress Award.

While we’re very happy for Kate, it’s only fair that Michael gets his moment in the sun next.

6. If Saoirse Ronan doesn’t win, Michael has to

Saoirse Ronan’s performance in Brooklyn blew everyone away and we’ve lost count of the number of awards she’s been nominated for.

The 21-year-old is up for Best Actress this year and if she doesn’t win we’ll be devastated.

However, if Michael doesn’t win either, well…we must not speak of such things.

7. This movie meant a lot to him

Before he took up the role of Steve Jobs, Michael was planning on taking a break from acting.

The Kerry native wanted to take some time off but when the Danny Boyle movie came along, he couldn’t say no.

“I just couldn’t not do that. It was such a rare opportunity, so it just sort of went that way. But I feel good,” he previously said of the role.

With passion like that, we demand an Oscar this instant.

8. Kate Winslet called him a ‘legend’ in her speech

Kate didn’t only just win the Golden Globe, she also took the opportunity to give her co-star a shout out.

The Titanic actress explained that Michael was a “legend” and she was completely blown away by his talent.

We agree, Kate!

9. He’s a ride

Alright, we know the Oscars are about awarding people for their acting abilities, but we all know looks play a role in Hollywood.

Michael has the classic good looks thing going on and that’s got to count for something (and that smile, that stunning smile).

Plus, we love the ginger beard.

10. We don’t want him to turn into Leonardo DiCaprio

Unfortunately, Leo has become known for his lack of Oscar wins.

The Wolf of Wall Street star lost out on five different occasions and is nominated against Michael this year for The Revenant.

Although Michael is only on his second nomination, we don’t want him to loose too many and become the next Leo.

11. He’s fluent in multiple languages

Although he was raised in Killarney, Michael was born in Germany and has a German dad.

The actor was fluent in German during his younger days and although he lost some of it as a teen, he got it back for Inglorious Bastards.

If he wins, he could deliver his acceptance speech in two languages – wir genehmigen, Michael.
