Domhnall Gleeson: 'If I could have a quarter of my dad's career – then I'd be happy'

Domhnall Gleeson has admitted he would love to emulate his father Brendan Gleeson’s career.

Although enjoying major success with his recent releases Brooklyn, Star Wars and Ex Machina, the Malahide native insisted he would be happy if he had a dash of his dad’s career.

“Obviously, my father is an amazing example as an actor and as a man, so in the back of your head you’re thinking ‘Well, if I could have a quarter of the career of my dad, then hugely happy,” he said.

Career aspirations aside, the 32-year-old admitted he’s lucky his career risks have paid but insisted he doesn’t feel any pressure to keep on his blockbuster roll.

“For a couple of years now, the projects I’ve had, there’s none of them I would say ‘Well we tried, but it didn’t quite work’,” he told the Australian Telegraph.

“I’m lucky to have been part of some extraordinary films. I try harder to get the films that speak to me.

“With each of those you’re going to take risks, and some of those risks won’t pay off. I’ve been lucky that most of the risks have paid off,” he added.

“But it has to be OK to fail. So I’m not putting any pressure on to continue a roll. Keep on taking risks and it’ll be fine; if you fail a couple of times, that’s fine too.”
