The Laser And Skin Clinic, located in Dublin, Athlone and Mullingar, use the intense treatment, which is considered the safest and most effective chemical peel.

As The Laser and Skin Clinic is a medically led skin clinic, they are able to offer clients Advanced Medical Skin Tech chemical peels – as this must be performed by a medical practitioner.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is a chemical solution that is applied to the skin. The solution causes the layer of skin to separate and peel off. The new regenerated skin underneath is usually smoother, less wrinkled and more even in both tone and colour.

After the peel you will see a reduction in pigmentation, less age spots, freckles and sun damage effects, a softening of acne scarring and fine lines and wrinkles.

Tipperary Blogger Robyn O’Dwyer tested out the treatment, to help her with pigmentation.

Like a lot of Irish women, Robyn has always had a huge amount of freckles on her face, and wanted to lessen the effect.

Within 10 days, Robyn saw fantastic results.

So…Sex and the City Fans this ones for those of you who can remember Samantha
when she had a chemical peel treatment? Or should we say who doesn’t!

Anna Gunning founder and aesthetic nurse at The Laser and Skin Clinic admits
that people can still be a little hesitant to try skin peels since that very episode so
many years ago.

So we sat down with Anna to get the lowdown on everything you need to know about skin peels.

Firstly, what is a skin peel?
A skin peel is a resurfacing treatment designed to improve and enhance the skin.
Also known as a face peel, a skin peel is a means of chemically exfoliating the
skin by breaking down the intercellular glue that holds together dead skin cells
and in turn causing cell turnover bringing new skin to the surface at a faster rate.
Are there different types of peels?
Chemical peels are classified according to the depth of penetration ranging
from superficial to medium and deep.

Superficial Skin Peels
Superficial or light peels are the mildest type of chemical peel and can be used on
all skin types. Glycolic, salicylic, mandelic and lactic acid are the most commonly
used skin peels for concerns such as congestion, acne, pigmentation, ageing and
so on. Superficial peels also come in different strengths and blends and should be
tailored to each persons skin type and skin concern. Regardless which peel you
are having you should always attend a reputable skin clinic for a skin
assessment/consultation prior to your treatment. Superficial skin peels can be
carried out by a trained aesthetic therapist, nurse or doctor.

Medium Depth Skin Peels
Medium-depth peels such as the TCA Chemical Peel (Trichloroacetic Acid) or The
Perfect Peel do everything a superficial peel does, but are more effective at
treating sun damage, superficial scarring and ageing skin because they can
penetrate deeper therefore the rate of cell turnover and exfoliation is much
higher producing more impressive and noticeable results.
How many skin peels are recommended?
Regardless of the type of peel it’s always recommended to complete a course of
4-6 skin peels for best results at 2-4 week intervals.

What recovery time should I expect?
There is minimal recovery time with superficial skin peels although this can vary
depending on individual skin condition and skin type. Most clients will
experience light shedding, mild sensitivity and mild swelling that can easily be
concealed with mineral makeup. With medium depth Chemical Peels such as
Easy TCA and The Perfect Peel you will experience moderate peeling from day 3
to day 7.

Which skin peel will suit you?
Superficial Peels
-Salicylic based skin peels or salicylic blend work best for concerns such as
acne, congestion, oiliness and enlarged pores
-Glycolic based skin peels or glycolic blend work best for ageing, dull, tired,
dehydrated skin types
-Lactic / Mandelic skin peels are mild exfoliators and work best for sensitive
and rosacea skin types and also help to gently lighten pigmentation.

Medium Depth Skin Peels
Easy TCA is the most famous and internationally known Skin Tech brand of
medium depth chemical peeling that can treat a variety of skin concerns in one
application such as stubborn and deeper sun damage, uneven skin tone and
texture, shallow acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles including enlarged pores.
Considered as the safest and most effective medium depth chemical peel it can
provide fantastic visible results in as little as one treatment. This peel in
particular can only be performed by an aesthetic nurse or doctor, so you should
always attend a medical led clinic with a practitioner who has many years
experience performing this treatment on a regular basis.

What preparation is required prior to treatment?
Active skin peels may require skin preparation prior to treatment to prepare
your skin for your peel to achieve better penetration and an even coverage. This
may involve using a Glycolic or Salicylic cleanser once a day for 2-4 weeks prior
to your first peel. You will also require a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and broad-
spectrum sunscreen as part of your aftercare.

Where can I have these skin peels?
Anna has over 15 years experience in aesthetic medicine and performing
chemical peels at The Laser and Skin Clinics in Dublin, Mullingar and Athlone.
With a wide range of Skin Peels from Image Skincare, SkinCeuticals, AlumierMD,
Obagi, ZO Skin Health to medium depth peels like TCA Chemical Peel and The
Perfect Peel there are so many to choose from. If you want to get your skin tiptop
