The BEST films to watch on Netflix this Galentine’s Day

Movie night!

Galentine’s Day has definitely become our favourite unofficial holiday, ever since Amy Poehler invented it on Parks and Recreation.

It takes place the day before Valentine’s Day, February 13th, and encourages girls to spend time with their closest gal pals.

And what better way to hang out with your girls than watch a heap of chick flicks, and binge on plenty of junk food and wine?

So with this in mind, we’ve listed ten of our favourite films to watch on Netflix this Galentine’s Day…

1. How To Be Single

This hilarious chick flick stars Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson, and it’s sure to make you laugh out loud.

The film follows Alice (Dakota Johnson), who decides she needs a break from her long-term boyfriend Josh. Excited and ready for new challenges, the eager grad moves to New York to take a job as a paralegal.

Helping her navigate her way through an unfamiliar city is Robin (Rebel Wilson), a fun-loving, wild co-worker who enjoys partying and one-night stands.

With Robin as her freewheeling guide, Alice can now learn how to get free drinks, meet men and enjoy the single lifestyle.

 

2. Legally Blonde

We know you’ve probably all seen Legally Blonde numerous times, but it just never gets old in our eyes.

The film follows Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon), a fashionable sorority queen who is dumped by her boyfriend.

She decides to follow him to law school, but while she’s there – she figures out that there is more to her than just looks.

 

3. The Other Woman

The Other Woman is a wild ride from start to finish, and boasts an amazing cast which includes Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton.

The film’s synopsis reads, “After discovering her boyfriend is married, Carly soon meets the wife he’s been betraying. And when yet another love affair is discovered, all three women team up to plot revenge on the three-timing S.O.B.”

 

4. Pitch Perfect

This musical comedy film is just what a girly night is all about – singing, friendship, and plenty of laughs.

The film follows Beca (Anna Kendrick), a freshman at Barden University, who is cajoled into joining The Bellas, her school’s all-girls singing group.

Injecting some much needed energy into their repertoire, The Bellas take on their male rivals in a campus competition.

 

5. Dumplin’

This Netflix original film stars Daniella MacDonald and Jennifer Aniston, and it’s guaranteed to make you feel all the feels.

The film is all about Willowdean Dickson (otherwise known as ‘Dumplin’), the plus-size teenage daughter of a former beauty queen, who signs up for her mom’s Miss Teen Bluebonnet pageant as a protest.

However, Willowdean’s defiant act escalates when other contestants follow in her footsteps, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town.

 

6. Bridget Jones’s Baby

Bridget Jones’ Baby is the perfect film to watch with your pals this Galentine’s Day.

Whether you need a laugh or a cry, Renée Zellweger’s iconic character will give you both as Bridget finds herself pregnant – and unsure about the identity of her baby’s father.

Of course, the film sees the return of Colin Firth as Mark Darcy, and it also stars Grey’s Anatomy hunk Patrick Dempsey.

 

7. Hitch

This romantic comedy stars Will Smith as Hitch – a matchmaker who helps men woo the women of their dreams.

Hitch helps his clients act cool and impress their dates, but faces his own setbacks when a reporter throws him off his game.

8. Baby Mama

Baby Mama stars the ultimate comedy duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

The film follows a single executive woman (Tina), who decides that she is ready to have a baby – despite not having a partner.

Tina’s character hires a working-class woman (Amy) to act as her surrogate mother, but things take a turn when the surrogate shows up at her house looking for somewhere to live.

9. The Notebook

Let’s face it, this list simply wouldn’t be complete without The Notebook.

 

In case you haven’t seen it, the film is set back in the 1940s, and tells the love story between mill worker Noah (Ryan Gosling) and rich girl Allie (Rachel McAdams), whose parents don’t approve of their relationship.

After enjoying a passionate summer romance when they were young, Noah and Allie are reunited seven years later – but Allie is engaged to another man.

PSA: You’ll definitely need tissues for this one!

10. My Best Friend’s Wedding

After the cast of My Best Friend’s Wedding recently reunited for an epic magazine shoot, we simply have to watch this 1997 classic again.

The film’s synopsis reads, “When a woman’s long-time friend reveals he’s engaged, she realizes she loves him herself and sets out to get him, with only days before the wedding.”

It’s one of our all-time favourite rom-coms, and stars Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Dermot Mulroney, and Rupert Everett.
