Our favourite Christmas ads from last year

The countdown to the festive season is officially on, as a host of businesses have already started releasing their Christmas 2021 ads.

So far, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Boots and Disney have released ads for Christmas, and we cannot wait for the heartwarming trailers to come in the weeks ahead.

We have taken a look back at some of our favourite festive ads from last year, many of which left us in tears with their sweet messages about the true meaning of Christmas.

Take a look:

SuperValu

SuperValu left Irish people in floods of tears after releasing their heartwarming ad last year.

The one-minute ad told the story of a little boy preparing for Christmas, continuously asking his parents: “Is he still coming?” amid the coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

The young child hopes and prays for the arrival of a very special man on Christmas day, sharing an important message about what’s really important during the festive season.

Coca-Cola

Along with their annual ‘Holiday’s Are Coming’ ad, Coca-Cola shared a story about making time for your loved ones at Christmas.

As a brave father headed off for a grueling adventure, his young daughter handed him a letter addressed to Santa Claus.

The man guarded the letter with his life as embarked on his most important mission yet – to get the letter to the North Pole.

Disney

Disney’s beautiful 2020 Christmas ad was highly praised for representing a Filipino family in a story about family traditions.

‘From Our Family To Yours’ told the story of the special bond between a grandmother named Lola and her granddaughter.

As time goes on and the world changes around them, Lola and her granddaughter’s beloved Christmas tradition remains.

Woodie’s

Woodie’s heartwarming 2020 ad was set in Ebenezer Terrace in Dublin 8, and followed a beloved local woman named Mrs Higgins.

The elderly lady greets all of her neighbours with a smile as she leaves her house to go about her day, but has trouble with her faulty gate.

When local teenager Arron spots Mrs Higgins’ struggle, he decides to give the pillar of the community a thoughtful Christmas gift to remember.

‘We’re All Homemakers’ shared a sweet message about the importance of acts of kindness, with the DIY store putting emphasis on looking out for one another after a difficult year.

John Lewis

John Lewis’ much-anticipated Christmas advert last year celebrated random acts of kindness.

The popular department store teamed up with Waitrose for the campaign, encouraging people to ‘Give A Little Love’ this Christmas.

In a message shared alongside the video, they wrote: “We believe that the world would be a better place if we all gave a little more love.”

“So this year we’re celebrating kindness, whether large or small, showing how each and every act of love has a positive impact on the world around us, as we pass them on to others.”

Aldi

The nation’s most beloved vegetable, Kevin the Carrot, returned to our screens to mark the start of the festive season with Aldi’s heartwarming ad last year.

The advert showed Kevin trying to make it home in time for Christmas, and he’s fortunate enough to find a few new friends to help.

But while riding as fast as they can through the night, they fell into a deep ravine and splash into a fast-flowing river, before Santa Claus came to the rescue.

McDonalds

The McDonalds’ 2020 Christmas ad told the story of a mother desperate to get her teenage son to put down his video games.

The animated feature saw the mother prepare for the Christmas season while her son refused to participate in the fun.

The sweet trailer saw the boy eventually bring out his inner child, as the family-of-two enjoyed their Christmas together.
