Lights, Camera, Smooch! The Top 10 Irish Reality TV Showmances

If there’s one thing that reality TV is great for, it’s a good ol’ showmance.

There’s nothing like an on-screen romance to keep you glued to a series – and a reality TV romance is even better.

From the fateful love story of Eoghan Quigg and Diana Vickers on the X Factor, to the rocky relationship of Phil and Nikita on Tallafornia – all of these showmances have made us laugh, cry and basically feel all the feels.

Here at Goss HQ, we’ve compiled a list of our FAVE Irish reality TV couples from over the years, and trust us, there’s some absolute GEMS in there.

1. Eoghan Quigg and Diana Vickers

Ahh, who can forget one of the greatest X Factor love stories of ALL TIME?!

Northern Irish singer Eoghan appeared on the X Factor back in 2008 alongside English beauty Diana, and the pair quickly become very close despite her having a boyfriend.

The romance didn’t last long, but we will forever remember the moment he ran on stage to hug her during her final performance.

Ah, young love.

2. Georgia Penna and Calum Best

Contestants from TV3's Celebrity Salon at The Odeon

Then known as Georgia Salpa, the Greek-Irish model had a very memorable romance with none other than notorious bad boy Calum Best on TV3’s Celebrity Salon.

Nothing says romance like bikini waxes and hair rollers, but these two managed to find love while filming the reality series.

However, it wasn’t meant to be as after dating for several months their whirlwind romance came to an abrupt end in 2011 when Calum was photographed going home with presenter Donna Air – ouch!

3. Phil Penny and Nikita Murray

Phil Penny, Nikita Murray, Marc O'Neill

Ahh Nikita and Phil.. aka the star crossed lovers of Tallafornia.

These two were the talk of the town back in 2012 as their, er, rocky relationship was documented on the Irish version of Jersey Shore – Tallafornia.

The show itself raised a lot of eyebrows, but especially because of their relationship which involved a lot of smooching, screaming, shouting, crying and let’s not forget – THAT lapdance!

We STILL can’t even watch it, but if you’re brave enough – then here you go:

4. Dani Robinson and Paul Furlong

Fade Street gave us a lot of things, including the lovely Vogue Williams, but it ALSO gave us the gift of the Dani and Paul long distance relationship fiasco.

The couple, who are both originally from Wexford, saw their relationship crumble on the show as Dani wanted to make the big move up to Dublin and Paul wanted to stay in their hometown.

Their back and forth relationship provided us with a lot of entertainment, with Paul becoming some what of an internet sensation for his blunt one-liners.

Also, remember the time Paul showed up at Oxegen and pushed Dani and her mate telling them both to “f**k off”? Now, THAT was TV GOLD! Skip to 5.20:

5. Nadia Forde and Jake Quickenden

We all remember these two from the 2014 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The Irish model and X Factor star constantly flirted during their time in the jungle, but insist that nothing really ever happened between them – we beg to differ.

Their will-they-won’t-they romance didn’t last long after the jungle as they reportedly had a massive bust up at the show’s wrap party – yikes!

Nadia is now happily dating Welsh rugby player Dominic Day and Jake is currently seeing the winner of said I’m A Celeb series Carl Fogarty’s daughter.

6. Jeremy McConnell and Stephanie Davis

The latest reality TV couple to add to this list is Irish male model Jeremy McConnell and ex Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis for their, ahem, controversial antics in Celebrity Big Brother.

The pair have caused quite a stir as they have massively flirted and even kissed on camera, despite Stephanie having a very serious boyfriend outside of the house.

The situation has escalated so much that Jeremy is starting to receive threats from Stephanie’s boyfriend’s mates, however despite the obvious wrong-doing, Jeremy proceeds to tell Stephanie that he LOVES her.

We are VERY excited to see whats to come for these two…

7. Nadia Forde and Greg Lake

Celebrity Salon 2012 Wrap part at The Wright Venue

Okay, so these two never officially dated, but there was some serious flirting going on and that’s good enough for us.

The pair met on the set of Celebrity Salon in 2012 and even earned the nickname Gradia after one particularly boozy night in Galway.

Unfortunately for Nadia and Greg, it wasn’t meant to be and they decided to remain friends after the series wrapped.

8. Edele Lynch and George Shelley

The B*witched beauty and the Gogglebox coach potato met in the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2014.

Although it took a while before the flirting began, the pair eventually shared a smooch under the covers, much to the fury of Stephanie Pratt who also had eyes for George.

As far as we know, the romance has since sizzled out, although they did spend New Years together in 2015 so it’s not all bad.

9. Nicola Hughes and Alex Mytton

The Made in Chelsea star and the Dublin model are the reality couple of the moment.

The pair met in the Naas Court Hotel in Kildare and soon Nicola was popping up on the E4 reality show as his new lady love.

Despite his bad boy reputation, the blonde beauty didn’t let her beau’s past stop her from getting to know him.

The couple were recently in Ireland where they partied with Nicola’s mum who admitted she loves Alex.

10. Kelly Donegan and Dave Behan

Kelly and Dave were together during their time on ill-fated reality show Tallafornia.

The couple were like the Charlotte and Gaz of Irish TV and had their fair share of make-ups and break-ups.

The pair have since split up for good with Kelly focused on her fitness career and Dave dating singer Leanne Moore.
