Virgin Media boss Bill Malone has hinted an Irish version of The Masked Singer could be in the works.
The UK version of the singing competition has been airing on ITV and Virgin Media One over the past few weeks, sparking a huge reaction on social media.
The wacky reality show follows a group of masked celebrities, as they battle it out on stage with their singing talents.
At the end of each episode, one celebrity’s identity is revealed as they are unmasked on stage in a wild guessing game.
A host of famous faces are on the judging panel, including Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, and Rita Ora.
Due to the show’s success on Virgin Media One over the past few weeks, Bill Malone has admitted they’re keeping “a close eye” on the series, to see if an Irish version is possible.
Speaking to the Irish Sun, Virgin Media’s Director of Content said: “While there are no immediate plans for an Irish version of The Masked Singer, we are keeping a close eye on how it’s performing because (the ITV version) is one of the top entertainment shows in Virgin Media TV’s Spring Schedule along with Dancing On Ice and The Voice.”
In the mean time, Bill has encouraged Irish celebrities to sign up for the UK version, including members of Westlife and Boyzone.
“These guys are hugely talented and it would be an opportunity for them to win over a brand new audience in disguise,” he said.
“Can you imagine the surprise when they removed their mask?”
Bill added: “I often lobby for Irish talent when I meet ITV. I ask that they include Irish people in shows like Love Island and they do Âlisten.”
