The best moments from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding day

It’s hard to believe it’s been three years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot during one of the most watched royal weddings to date.

Since they exchanged vows at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, the couple have welcomed a son named Archie, and quit life as senior working royals.

Now living in California full time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting a baby girl together, and Meghan is due to give birth in a matter of weeks.

To mark their third wedding anniversary today, we decided to take a look back on their star-studded wedding day, which brought the world to a stand still on May 19, 2018.

Here are some of our favourite moments from their big day:

The bride’s arrival

BBC

Everyone was eager to see what Meghan would be wearing on their big day – and she did not disappoint.

The former actress wore a bespoke Givenchy silk white gown, which was created by British fashion designer Clare Waight Keller.

She also wore Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, which she borrowed from the Queen.

We can all agree that Meghan looked like a real princess on the day, but her dress sparked a lot of debate online.

Many felt the gown “didn’t fit her right”, and much preferred the dress she changed into for their reception.

More on that later…

Prince Charles walking Meghan down the aisle

Drama seems to have just followed poor Meghan around, ever since she fell in love with Prince Harry.

On the lead up to their big day, there was serious tension between the former actress and her father Thomas Markle – after he posed for staged paparazzi photos behind her back.

In the end, Thomas said he couldn’t make the wedding after he suffered a heart attack.

In his absence, Harry’s father Prince Charles stepped in to walk Meghan down the aisle.

The celebrity guests

No royal wedding is complete without the appearance of Hollywood royalty, and this wedding had the mother of all guest lists.

There was a real mix of celebrities at the wedding – from Meghan’s former Suits co-stars, to David and Victoria Beckham.

The guest list also included Elton John, George and Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, and Oprah (as you do).

Prince Harry’s reaction to his bride

Prince Harry appeared emotional when he saw Meghan inside St. George’s Chapel for the first time.

During the wedding, the Prince was seen on video with red eyes, while wiping his face.

Fans of the young couple also went wild when the groom was caught on camera biting his lip when he spoke to Meghan for the first time at the altar.

Cressida Bonas’ reaction

While the whole world watched Prince Harry tear up when he saw his blushing bride, viewers spotted his ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas not looking too happy in the audience.

Not that it’s all too normal to watch your ex marry someone else anyway, but watching your ex marry a Hollywood star mustn’t have been easy.

Fans were quick to spot Cressida looking a bit shocked and unhappy as the couple stood at the top of the church.

The reactions on social media killed it too…

Bishop Michael Curry’s sermon

Who can forget this famous and impassioned sermon from American bishop Michael Curry?

The Most Reverend Michael Curry of Chicago brought laughter and tears to the ceremony, as he spoke about the importance of love.

“There’s power in love. Do not underestimate it. Anyone who has ever fallen in love knows what I mean,” he stated.

His speech was seen as a significant break from tradition, and was widely praised on social media.

The choir

Another stand out element of Harry and Meghan’s wedding day was their incredible choir.

The Kingdom Choir, a gospel group from London, performed a beautiful rendition of the iconic song Stand By Me – which had viewers in tears.

The group’s performance was definitely a highlight of the newlywed’s culture-blending ceremony.

The newlywed’s first kiss

After the ceremony, Prince Harry and Meghan were finally able to seal their marriage with a kiss.

The newlyweds shared their first smooch as husband and wife on the steps of St. George’s Chapel in front of their adoring fans.

What a moment!

Meghan’s dress change and THAT ‘James Bond’ car

Hours after walking down the aisle, Meghan changed into her second bridal gown for their wedding reception – and this one went down a treat.

The bride looked sensational in a white sleeveless high-neck silk gown, designed by Stella McCartney.

The couple travelled in style to their reception at Frogmore House in a 1968 Jaguar convertible, which was like something straight out of a Bond movie.

The car’s license plate even read E190518, which was a sweet nod to their wedding date.

The wedding reception

Around 200 guests were invited to Meghan and Harry’s wedding reception at Frogmore House, which was hosted by Prince Charles.

Elton John performed at the bash, and later in the night Idris Elba provided the tunes as DJ.

A host of famous faces attended the party, and its famously claimed that George Clooney danced with both Meghan and Kate Middleton at the reception.

Guests were also treated to an extravaggant firework display, as they celebrated Meghan and Harry’s nuptials.
