Modern Family cast post heartfelt tributes after final episode airs

We can't believe the series has come to an end!

The final ever episode of Modern Family aired last night in the US.

The season finale saw the Dunphy and Pritchett families go their separate ways, and it was seriously emotional.

After 11 seasons and 250 episodes, the series has become one of the most successful sitcoms of all time.

After spending years working on the show, the cast were understandably emotional as the final episode of Modern Family aired last night.

Sarah Hyland, who played Haley Dunphy on the show for 11 years, shared photos of the cast from over the years, and wrote: “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

“To put it in Bachelor terms, I’ve had an incredible journey with this show. Our cast and crew were always phenomenal and we very quickly grew to be a real life #modernfamily.”

“I will miss these people tremendously but am so grateful I was lucky enough to work with them.”

Taking to Instagram, Eric Stonestreet, who played Cam in the hit series, shared a behind the scenes shot of the cast hugging.

He wrote: “To my TV family. In 11 years there has been so much we have all been through individually and uniquely together.”

Sofia Vergara, who played Gloria Esteban, also took to Instagram to share some memorable shots from over the years.

The actress captioned the post: “My family on and off screen forever ????”

She added: “What an amazing 11 years! So thankful for this family, the crew and all of our #modernfamily fans”

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Mitch for 11 seasons, uploaded a series of stories on his Instagram.

He shared photos of their last day on se,  and throwbacks of previous episodes.

In some of the photos and videos, the cast can be seen dancing, crying and drinking “liquid courage”.

After the season finale, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons revealed the cast had a group Zoom session to celebrate because of the Covid-19 lockdown.

The actress, who played Lily in the series, captioned the post: “Post finale Zoom sesh was good for our hearts.”

Nolan Gould also shared a meaningful moment from the finale show online.

Nolan, who played Luke, posted an emotional picture of himself hugging his fellow cast members.

In a lengthy caption, he wrote: “11 years of laughs, tears and love. Can’t believe it’s over. So much love for the best damn cast and crew in Hollywood who’ve made me who I am today. I wouldn’t be the same without you. What a journey it’s been.”

The 21-year old continued: “Thank you to my family and friends. I hope that our finale brought laughter and hope in these crazy times. I hope that you laughed, cried and were able to escape a bit.”

“Remember that there’s nothing more important than the love we share for our fellow humans. You’ll always be part of our family.”

Many fans of Modern Family shared their love for the show online too.

One fan shared: “It still manages to be the one show that my entire family will sit around and watch together”

Fans were also very happy with how the show ended.
