Alexandra Cane has broken down in tears after opening up about her battle with alcohol abuse.
The Love Island star took part in a very personal Instagram Q&A on Tuesday, where she bravely shared that her excessive drinking led to hospitalisation on multiple occasions.
The 29-year-old admitted she experienced “dangerous, irresponsible, unsafe and uncomfortable” situations as a result of being under the influence.
The reality star listed “damaged relationships, verbal and physical abuse, sexual assault, arguments, and anxiety” as examples of dangerous situations she found herself in.
Alexandra told her followers that she suffered badly from panic attacks after a day of drinking, which was one of the main reasons she decided to stop.
“My anxiety got so bad that I would have awful panic attacks where I genuinely thought I was going to die,” she shared.
“I got taken to hospital a few times because it was that bad I couldn’t breathe – I never want to feel that way ever again.”
“I hate the way it makes me feel both mentally and physically,” she added, “It makes me feel so vulnerable so I much prefer being in control of my thoughts and my actions.”
 
“I’ve actually ended up in hospital a fair few times because of alcohol,” she continued.
“I actually feel like such an asshole for the times I ended up there (self inflicted) because I’ve potentially wasted doctors time through being irresponsible where they could have been helping someone else.”
The reality star later admitted she had to stop reading the DMs she was receiving since bravely opening up, because she could not “stop crying.”
After receiving a message of support from a fan who said her alcoholic mother stopped drinking thanks to Alexandra’s fitness programme, the Love Islander broke down in tears.
“From someone who has lost loved ones due to alcoholism and drug addiction, and almost ending up on a bath path with it myself… that message has touched me beyond belief.”
“You have no idea how much it means to me that you guys appreciate my advice and opinion. Not only that, but you trust me with your stories and personal experiences.”
She added: “I feel honoured that you feel you can be so open with me.”
“Life throws shit at us sometimes but I’ve always just tried to find strength in every sad situation.”
“You continue to give me life on a daily basis and keep me going even when times are tough,” she concluded, “I can’t thank you enough.”
