Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson were secretly engaged before they split for good at the end of last year.
During the latest episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians, it was revealed that Khloe rejected Tristan’s proposal in December 2019.
However, E! News has since confirmed that the former couple secretly got engaged around February 2021, and they remained fiancés for nine months.
Khloe then ended her romance with the basketball player after his paternity lawsuit came to light.
In the lawsuit filed against him, personal trainer Maralee Nichols said she gave birth to a baby boy on December 1, 2021, and insisted Tristan was the father.
In court documents, Tristan admitted he had sex with Maralee in March last year, one month after he got engaged to Khloe.
A paternity test later confirmed he is the father of Maralee’s son, and the NBA star issued a public apology to Khloe at the time.
He wrote on his Instagram Stories in January: “Khloe, you don’t deserve this. You don’t deserve the heartache and humiliation I have caused you.”
“You don’t deserve the way I have treated you over the years. My actions certainly have not lined up with the way I view you.”
Khloe sparked engagement rumours in February last year when she was spotted wearing a huge diamond ring on her finger.
Her mom Kris Jenner addressed the rumours on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in March, when the host asked: “What is the ring on [Khloe’s] finger? It’s a giant ring. What’s happening?”
Kris replied: “That’s a good ring. I think she just loves jewellery. She loves a good ring. You should ask Khloe that!”
Khloe never publicly confirmed her engagement, but revealed on this week’s episode of The Kardashians that she shut down a proposal from Tristan in December 2020.
The 38-year-old explained to her sister Kim that she turned down the proposal because she wasn’t “comfortable” with where they were in their relationship.
The Good American founder explained: “What I said, is that I need to make sure this is a totally different relationship. Because I want to be proud to say I’m engaged to anyone. And that’s why I said, ‘you know, I’m not comfortable accepting this right now, because I’m not excited to tell my family.’”
Khloe admitted that her rejection was probably “hurtful” for Tristan to hear, but she knew she needed to stay true to herself, adding: “I’m not ever going to accept something and give someone false hope—and I said that to him.”
Kim revealed she only found out about the proposal because Tristan told her.
“I asked him months later, the night after I thought it happened,” she told her younger sister, “and he’s like, ‘Oh, I did it months ago. She didn’t tell you guys?’”
Kim further explained that Tristan had called her to share his plans to propose on Valentine’s Day 2021.
“Which was like a year since they had drama,” the SKIMS founder noted in a confessional. “And then I called him the day after and I was like, ‘Hey, I never heard anything from Khloe. Oh my god, did you propose?’ And he was like, ‘Oh yeah, I did in December.’”
Khloe and Tristan have dated on-off since 2016, and they welcomed their second child together via surrogate at the end of July – a baby boy.
