Britney Spears poses topless amid conservatorship battle

Britney Spears has shared a topless photo of herself amid her conservatorship battle.

The singer is currently fighting to end her conservatorship, which was established in 2008 after she suffered an alleged breakdown.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, the 39-year-old sent fans into a frenzy by posing in just a pair of shorts.

One fan commented: “break the internet queen”, while a second penned: “now she’s saying #FREEBRITNEY”.

#FreeBritney is an online movement started by fans who believe the popstar is being held against her will due to her conservatorship.

The singer used the hashtag for the first time last week, as she celebrated being given the right to appoint her own lawyer in her ongoing legal battle.

Alongside a video of herself horseriding and cartwheeling, she wrote: “Coming along, folks … coming along 🖕🏻!!!!! New with real representation today … I feel GRATITUDE and BLESSED !!!!”

After Britney’s court appointed lawyer Samuel D Ingham requested to resign from his role earlier this month, Hollywood lawyer Mathew Rosengart was hired to represent the star.

A conservatorship is granted to those who are incapable of making decisions, such as people with mental disabilities.

Britney’s conservatorship put her estate, financial assets, and some personal assets under the control of her father Jamie, and lawyer Andrew Wallet – who has since resigned from the role.

The Toxic singer’s conservatorship has been under review since 2019 after she accused her father of forcing her to enter a mental health facility.

In November last year, the songstress tried to have her father removed as her conservator, but her request was denied.

Instead, a judge named wealth management firm the Bessemer Trust as co-conservator of her estate, alongside her father.

However, Bessemer Trust has since resigned from the role.

During a landmark court hearing on June 23, Britney called for an end to her 13-year conservatorship, which she branded “abusive”.

In a passionate statement, the pop singer said: “I am not happy, I can’t sleep. I’m so angry, it’s insane. And I’m depressed.”

“My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management… they should be in jail… I just want my life back.”

Judge Brenda Penny denied Britney’s request to remove her father from her conservatorship.
